A Heart's Obsession | Kindle Giveaway, Blog Tour, and Author Chat Party with Colleen Coble

Can a woman held captive by her family make it back to the one man she knows she can trust? Find out in book two, A Heart's Obsession, of Colleen Coble's Journey of the Heart series. When Sarah Montgomery’s father succumbs to his long illness, Sarah is faced with a life-altering choice: submit to her brother’s will and marry the deceptive Ben Croftner . . . or escape through the dangerous American West to reclaim the heart of her beloved Rand Campbell at Fort Laramie, Wyoming.

My Reveiw: A Heart's Obsession is the second book in Colleen Coble's Journey of the Heart series. It picks up right where the first book, A Heart's Disguise, leaves off. Rand has left their small town of Wabash, Indiana, again. After Sarah's father passes away from his long time illness, she decides to pick up her life and go after her one true love.

In true Coble style, though, nothing goes as planned. Sarah gets the surprise of her life when she gets to Fort Laramie. Can Sarah trust the Lord with the new reality of her life? I honestly didn't like Rand in this story. He came off as cold and compassionless to Sarah's plight. Hopefully, that changes in the books to come. Trouble follows Sarah to Fort Laramie in the form of Ben Croftner. I will be interested to see what happens later on with him. He is the true definition of evil and scary.

Overall, I really enjoyed this latest installment to the Journey of the Heart series and look forward to the next one!

My Review: Any book that starts with "that whole thing about being a big fish in a small pond is more than just a saying, at least in my neck of the woods," is going to be a great book in my opinion! And this is definitely a great book! I loved it from start to finish. The description of the setting made me want to come to dinner at Sam's with Queenie and the whole Fisher gang. The story elicited Southern Charm from beginning to end, and I loved every minute of it!

Katie Fisher is beauty, grace, and humbleness rolled into one young lady that only a small town can produce. I loved her character. She was witty, smart, funny, and had a strong faith that she tried to live every day. Brady James is a down to earth pro basketball player that has no problem showing his Faith to the world. With sparks flying from the very start, how could I not enjoy this sweet love story! Madge, Twiggy, Courtney, and Dahlia provided excellent secondary characters and their antics had me rolling!

The message of the story was incorporated very well. "Don't worry about what hasn't happened. Set your sights on what's gonna happen." Sometimes, as Christians, we get so ahead of ourselves, wanting what we don't have or waiting for something that might not even happen. Slow down! Embrace what God has for you in this moment, but don't get stuck in a rut. Keep growing and changing. Don't become stagnant. Most of all, follow the path the Lord directs you to follow.

Overall, if you're looking for a faith based, sweet southern charm story, this is the one for you.

But there is one dark corner in his memory, one important part he can’t remember: his life with Stella.

My Review: What a beautiful novella. I adored this story. When I read the description, I admit I was nervous about how I would feel about it. My soldier wasn't lucky enough to come home. I realized, though, that there are so many soldiers out there who do get to come home, but they aren't whole. Do they have the support they need? (Sorry, I got a little off topic). This story is a beautiful picture of the restoring nature of our Lord. Marshall and Stella have a huge obstacle to overcome: he can't remember her or anyone for that matter. By putting their trust in the One who knows more and can do more than they ever could, they are modeling the behaviour that we as Christians should have. I want to put my trust in the God who knows everything, don't you? Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It is a great addition to the Year of Weddings series.

The Wood's Edge by Lori Benton

Overview: At the wood’s edge cultures collide. Can two families survive the impact?

The 1757 New York frontier is home to the Oneida tribe and to British colonists, yet their feet rarely walk the same paths.

On the day Fort William Henry falls, Major Reginald Aubrey is beside himself with grief. His son, born that day, has died in the arms of his sleeping wife. When Reginald comes across an Oneida mother with newborn twins, one white, one brown, he makes a choice that will haunt the lives of all involved. He steals the white baby and leaves his own child behind. Reginald’s wife and foundling daughter, Anna, never suspect the truth about the boy they call William, but Reginald is wracked by regret that only intensifies with time, as his secret spreads its devastating ripples.

When the long buried truth comes to light, can an unlikely friendship forged at the wood’s edge provide a way forward? For a father tormented by fear of judgment, another by lust for vengeance. For a mother still grieving her lost child. For a brother who feels his twin’s absence, another unaware of his twin’s existence. And for Anna, who loves them both—Two Hawks, the mysterious Oneida boy she meets in secret, and William, her brother. As paths long divided collide, how will God direct the feet of those who follow Him?

My Review: "...if knowing God in my heart means losing a little of what it means to be Oneida...I think it is only what must be remade in every man who comes to Creator through His Son, Jesus. White, black, red and any other sort of man. If I have lost anything, what I have gained is a trade in my favor."

Despite the fact that it took me so long to read this book, it was excellent. I loved the story from beginning to end. The descriptions of life in Colonial America before the war of Independence was exceptional. You can tell the author did her research. I loved the setting, the characters, and the story. I loved that the story was told through several points of view of a time span of 20 years or so.

The author did an amazing job with the description of the characters and their emotions. I was able to connect with each one on a different level and really feel what they were feeling. Their hurt, anger, love, regret, pride, and their faith each resonated with me. Hearing the story through Reginald, Anna, Lydia, Two Hawks, and Good Voice kept me captivated and turning page after page.

The quote up above, to me, represents so much of what the message of the story was. We are all people, created by One God, and our only way to heaven is to repent our sins to Jesus, His Son. When we accept that, we can let go of all our anger, bitterness, and hatred against those who wronged us and find the joy, love, and acceptance in life. Each character had to go through a journey of coming to accept what God was offering them and each story was unique. I absolutely loved that.

Overall, this book was heart-wrenchingly honest and raw. I look forward to reading more by this amazing author.

My Review: This is an awesome book. I love the way it's formatted to show the time lapsing and help keep up with all that's going on. The suspense and mystery were well developed and written. I was guessing right along with the characters until the very end. With all the twists and turns the story takes, I wasn't able to guess the outcome, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I loved the characters. Their charisma, spark, and spunk kept me engaged and actively following their romance. Laurel Everston is a strong, independent woman scarred by life. Even though she's been dealt a rough hand, she is doing her best to rise above her circumstances. Daniel Hilton is a sweet, tough guy. His devotion to do the right thing, follow God, and to help Laurel is what made him the man he is.

Morton Wilmington's conversion and ultimate sacrifice was an amazing picture of the love and care Christians should have. His faith, though new, was strong and he tried his best to show it in every facet of his life and to make amends with those he wounded before he went to prison. I believe his life and that of Daniel's faith and beliefs is what ultimately led to Laurel's conversion.

Overall, if you're looking for a thrilling story that will keep you guessing until the very end, this is the one for you!

Crossroads by Cathy Bryant - Review and Giveaway

    My Review
As the "owner" of a book review blog, I often get contacted by authors asking to review their books. I love getting these requests, but sometimes I have to turn them down for various reasons. Boy, am I glad I didn't turn this book down! Cathy Bryant is a wonderful writer. The story came alive on the pages and I couldn't put it down. The small town setting and the friendly, supporting community made me feel right at home.

I will admit I had a hard time liking Carter and Mara sometimes. Their attitudes and "pig-headedness" left a bad taste in my mouth. Overall, though, I really got to connect with them and their feelings. I could understand the emotions they were going through because they were so well written. I really enjoyed sweet Ashton's presence and Chloe's typical teenage attitude.

While the author focuses a lot on the budding romance between Carter and Mara, the romance kind of takes a back seat to the message. This book battles some very, very tough topics for Christians and non-Christians alike. Bulimia, childhood Leukemia, Depression, and PTSD play a prominent roll in the book. Despite the heavy topics, there is a lightness and sense of hope weaved expertly throughout the story. Even though "we live in enemy-occupied territory" with the devil trying to stir up all the trouble he can, God is with us and will never leave us.

Overall, I highly recommend this novel to anyone looking for a ray of hope in the midst of a battle.
*Thank you, Cathy, for providing me with a copy of your book in exchange for my honest review.*

Water Your Faith Wednesday - The Power of a Praying Wife (Part 13)

Hello everyone! Welcome to "Water Your Faith" Wednesday! How do you feel after spending your Sunday at church praising and worshiping our Lord? I know I feel great! I start my week fired up and ready to face what's in store. Oftentimes, however, by Wednesday, life begins to drag me down. My goal is provide a way to overcome the spiritual doldrums with encouraging words, scriptures, devotions, songs, etc. Let me know what you think!

Week 1, the introduction: The Power.
    Week 2, His Wife
    Week 3, His Work
    Week 4, His Finances
    Week 5, His Sexuality
    Week 6, His Affection
    Week 7, His Temptation
    Week 8, His Mind.
    Week 9, His Fears.
    Week 10, His Purpose
    Week 11, His Choices.
    Week 12, His Health.
    Week 13, His Protection.

Today, we are continuing our devotions with the 13th chapter in The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie OmartianHis Trials.

"Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved." - Psalm 55:22

My Thoughts: "Everyone goes through hard times. It's nothing to be ashamed of... It's the attitude we have when we go through them that matters most" (pg. 105). We've all been there. You know, the place where you feel like you can't get any lower or you'll be crushed, the valley of life. We yearn to be on the hilltop where it's safe and we can feel the presence of God. Truth is, God uses those "valleys" of life to mold us and shape us. As Stormie points out, "whether it feels like it or not, when we serve God, His love attends every moment of our lives -- even the toughest, loneliest, most painful and desperate" (pg. 106) and "trials can be a purifying fire and a cleansing water" (pg. 107). It's especially painful to watch someone you love so much go through trials. You want to fix it, but you can't. Our job as wives is to "pray, encourage, and support" during those trials while stepping back and letting God work in our husband's lives (pg. 107).

A New Series from Colleen Coble | ‘The Inn at Ocean’s Edge’ Tour, Giveaway, and Party

The minute she steps inside the grand Inn at Ocean's Edge, Claire Dellamare knows something terrible happened there—and only Luke Elwell believes her. Colleen Coble's new book, The Inn at Ocean's Edge, is a must-read for mystery and suspense readers. As Claire and Luke put together the pieces of a decades-old mystery, they discover that some family secrets refuse to stay buried. And some passions are worth killing for.

My Review: Wow, I did not see that coming! This book took me through twists and turns that I definitely didn't expect. Just when I thought I'd grasped what was going on, Colleen Coble threw me for a loop. That's why I love her writing style so much! Her stories are never predictable and I fit the pieces together along with the characters. That's why I was so excited for a chance to review this book!

Speaking of the characters... Claire Dellamare and Luke Elwell are a great team. Claire is strong and beautiful, but when the trials comes, she doubts herself. Luke is handsome and sweet, and reminds Claire of all that she is. It took me a while to warm up to Kate. I could understand her feelings, but at times I think her longing to be a part of something made her rash and cold. They all brought together a well-rounded story that was exciting from beginning to end.

The message of the story is best summed up as this: "God gives you what you need, not necessarily what you thought you wanted." How true is this statement! Over and over again, things happen in your life (good, bad, and everything in between), people come and go, and God is there through it all, guiding you (if you'll listen) and giving you what He knows we need. Accepting what God gives you is not always easy because it might not be exactly what you wanted. Just remember, He knows what He's doing and He has your best interest in mind.

Overall, if you're looking for a romantic suspense with twists, turns, and a lot of love, Colleen Coble's The Inn at Ocean's Edge is the story for you. I can't wait to see what she cooks up next!

      About the book:
The Inn at Ocean's Edge (Thomas Nelson, April 2015)
Claire's visit to a luxury hotel in Maine awakens repressed memories, threatening all she holds dear.
In 1989, Claire Dellamare disappeared from her own fourth birthday party at the Hotel Tourmaline on the island of Folly Shoals, Maine. She showed up a year later at the same hotel, with a note pinned to her dress but no explanation. Nobody knows where Claire spent that year---and until now, Claire didn't even know she had ever been missing.
But when Claire returns to the Hotel Tourmaline for a business meeting with her CEO father, disturbing memories begin to surface . . . despite her parents' best efforts to keep them forgotten.
Luke Rocco lost his mother under equally mysterious circumstances---at the same time Claire disappeared. After a chance encounter reveals the unlikely link between them, Claire and Luke set out together to uncover the truth about what happened that fateful year.
