My Review: I was so, so, so, so, SO excited when this story came out! I have been eagerly awaiting Gertrude's story since I was introduced to her in the first book, Behind the Scenes. It was everything I imagined it would be and more!

Gertrude's life with Mrs. Davenport is never dull. Gertrude is smart and funny. Her willingness to assist Mrs. Davenport in her many crazy endevears with fashion is most amusing. Harrison Sinclair is a strong male character. He is sure of himself and doesn't care what people think about him (or his crazy fashion sense). Their friendship is endearing. I love how clueless they both are about their feelings for each other. Watching them discover themselves and each other was sweet and amusing (as is Jen's customary style).

The message of the book is clear. As Gertrude and the others discover throughout the book, "God doesn't expect His children to live ordinary lives, but extraordinary ones." She also learned that you have to be "willing to give up living an ordinary life" and hand it over to God who can make that life extraordinary if we trust Him with it.

Overall, Jen Turano delivers another hilarious adventure, full of faith, fun, and a little romance. I highly recommend this book to anyone to loves a good clean book that will have you laughing til the very end.

My Review: I have never been disappointed with Dani's works. This book is no exception. I absolutely loved Blind Spot from beginning to end. I was quickly and completely wrapped up in the story and would have read it in one sitting if I didn't have a newborn to take care of!

I absolutely loved jumping back into the lives of Declan and Tanner. Seeing their relationship change and grow in the first two books, I was certainly eager to find out what happened in their own story. The tension between the two characters is undeniable. I loved learning more about each character and was surprised by some of the things I learned. It definitely made for a more interesting story. Their faith, though, was inspiring. Both characters have a firm grasp on the role God plays in their lives. I wish, oh how I wish I had that kind of faith!

The story is laid out masterfully. I was fully engaged throughout the entire story and hated getting to the end. I wanted more! I love how Dani also incorporates characters from her other stories in a way that allows us to stay connected to them, but still focuses on the main characters and plot. And talk about SHOCK FACTOR and CLIFF HANGER in the EXTREME! No, I won't tell you what happened.. I don't want to spoil it for you! But I honestly never saw it coming. Now, I have to patiently wait for the next book to come out!

Overall, I loved this book, as I knew I would. Dani Pettrey books are full of suspense, romance, and a hefty dose of faith. If that's what you're looking for in a story, you can't go wrong with any of Dani's works. I highly recommend you add Blind Spot to your reading list!

My Review:
I loved, loved, loved being back in Harper’s Station with some of my favorite women! Karen Witemeyer writes another refreshing book with unexpected heroes and heroines, plot twists you won’t see coming, and a sweet romance that captures you from beginning to end.

This book is refreshing because the hero and heroine are not your typical male/female leads. Amos Bledsoe is not your typical male lead. Sure, he’s confident, intelligent, sweet, funny, and kind… but he’s not in the least broad shouldered, big muscled, or “macho man.” I loved him more for the fact that he didn’t bemoan this fact; he accepted what God gave him and that, to me, makes him very attractive. Grace Mallory obviously agrees with me! Her character is strong in a reserved kind of way. She is loyal, funny, caring, and witty. I loved getting to know them through their “instant messages” on the Western Union telegraph line!

I also loved the fact that they both accepted their limitations, and relied on God and others to do what they knew they couldn’t do on their own. Neither one of them tried to do more than what they were capable of doing. They prayed, they planned, and they involved people who could help them. During that time, they had an old fashioned courtship. Amos’ rushing to Harper’s Station because he knew Grace was in trouble is all sorts of sweet. He didn’t even know what kind of trouble there would be! And let’s not forget about Helen…broken, angry, and bitter Helen (don’t worry, I won’t give anything away!).

If you couldn’t tell, I really, really, really LOVED this story. My heart was on the line from beginning to end. I couldn’t wait to see what happened between Grace and Amos, I enjoyed catching up with Emma, Malachi, Victoria, Ben, and the rest of Harper’s Station, and I was not disappointed at the plot: fast moving, romantic, and faith filled. It’s a great book! I promise you’ll enjoy it.

My Review: This book LITERALLY picks up where No Way Out ended (therefore, I recommend reading the first book in the series before this one). From the moment Cole is shot, tensions run high. There are a myriad of dangers facing the Boden clan and Connealy had me gripping my seat, hoping to uncover the danger but knowing there’s another book in the series so it won’t end with this one!

In No Way Out we meet confident and rugged Justin Boden who understands running a ranch and remains unshakeable. Long Time Gone shows us another side of Justin. You can immediately sense that his brother’s injury really shook his faith in himself and those around him. The only part of his character that seems unshaken is his protective streak. Enter Angie DuPree! It’s hilarious to me to watch Justin bumble through his “courtship” of Angie and it definitely helped to tone down the seriousness of the story.

Their faith in God, loyalty to their ranch and family, and love for one other shines through every page of the book as we watch Angie and Justin grow together, Cole heal, and the Bodens grow closer together to face the dangers that seem to be surrounding them. From start to finish, Mary Connealy delivers another action packed historical romance that is sure to please everyone!

My Review: I loved the uniqueness of this story! It’s written entirely in journal entries, notes, and phone conversations, which I highly enjoyed. Becky Wade really broke down the characters feelings about the situations in their lives that we don’t normally get to read about. Following Garner’s love life and faith journey was not always an enjoyable experience, but his honesty was refreshing. I really enjoyed this novella! I would definitely recommend reading this novella before you begin the Bradford Sisters Series.

My Review: What can I even say about this book to make you understand how much I loved it? Mary Connealy takes her books to a whole new level. While the book still provides us with the customary wit and banter we have come to expect in a Connealy novel, there is an underlying seriousness that is, to me, new and exciting.

The interactions between Heath and Boden clan kept me in stitches. He certainly has a brotherly relationship with Justin and Cole! The romance between Sadie and Heath was very well spaced between the mystery surrounding the avalanche and the danger lurking in the shadows.

Overall, the legacy of love and faith Chance and Veronica Boden left their children is beautiful and I hope we see the Boden clan come together over the next few books! I can’t wait to read more!

My Review: Dani Pettrey adds another gripping novel to her Chesapeake Valor series with Still Life. From beginning to end, this book keeps you guessing. Just when I thought I had it figured out, a new clue would surface and I'd have to reassess. I absolutely LOVED that about this book.

I'm so glad I got to catch back up with Griffin, Finley, Kate, Declan, and Tanner but I loved Avery and Parker's story. At the beginning, we see Avery and Parker both struggling with things in their past as well as their feelings for each other. In true Pettrey style, they are caught on a wild ride that brings them closer to each other and in the end, to love.

I loved that the focus of the book, besides the mystery and romance (of course), was on Avery's struggle to let go of her past. How many of you have been there? I know I have. Once we become new creations in Christ, our past is just that - the past. Avery knew God had forgiven her, wiped her sins and past clean, but she struggled with forgiving herself.

If you like thrilling stories, with spine tingling moments (even at the end..), a dash of romance, and of course a happy ending, Dani Pettrey's Still Life will not disappoint.

My Review: I have loved every book in the Appalachian Blessings series, so far. They are poignant stories that reach down deep and touch your heart. While A Tapestry of Secrets took me longer to really get into than the other stories, I ended up loving it just as much!

I enjoyed catching up with Perla, Sadie, and the rest of the family. Perla plays a big part in Ella’s story, though she is silent through most of it. Ella is a wonderful character. I felt such a connection to her struggle to accept herself as worthy, beautiful, and forgiven. At the point in the story where she had three beaus, I had already chosen who I wanted her go for. Seth provided a strong, silent support for Ella, following God’s prompting in his relationship with her.

Sadie’s quest for her biological father provided a nice side story, and added to the importance of the message. Sometimes, in order to embrace what God has for your life, you have to let go of the past. Ella, Sadie, and Perla all struggle with this throughout the book. The verse that kind of brings home the point to me is found in Acts chapter 2: “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off – for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

Overall, while it took me several chapters to get hooked to this story, I was caught well and good once it happened. I recommend this sweet, soul stirring story.

My Review: Karen Witemeyer writes another engaging, romantically fantastic story! I loved it from beginning to end. It will pull at your heart strings; make you laugh, and keep you hooked until the very end. I love the idea of “women’s colony,” and I fell in love with all the women at Harper’s Station. The spunk and determination they showed in the face of danger and conflict made for some exciting moments.

Emma Chandler is a woman that I would love to meet. Her compassion for others (especially women in need), enthusiasm for whatever she does, and her humble faith makes her an engaging and unique woman. I also loved the fact that even though she sided with the Women’s Suffrage movement, she still saw the value of men, especially Malachi Shaw. Malachi Shaw is a man with many hurts haunting him. It causes him to hold people at arm’s length, only creating surface relationships with the people he encounters. I can understand that and empathize. I loved watching their relationship grow. Even after ten years, you could feel the connection they had coming through the pages. Karen Witemeyer provides a host of side characters, and gives just information about them to intrigue without encroaching on the main story.

I loved the message Mrs. Witemeyer wove expertly into this story. Psalm 18 says that the Lord is our rock and our strength. Both Emma and Mal learn, through the trials they are face that all they need to do is cry out to Him and he will deliver them. Watching them struggle to trust God with their problems is something we can all relate to.

Overall, I find this story enchanting. I absolutely loved it and I hope Mrs. Witemeyer will write more stories about the ladies at Harper’s Station.

My Review: Wow! These three authors emanate the definition of romantic suspense. When I say I was on the edge of my seat the entire book, I mean it. This is a fast-paced, page turning, suspenseful novella collection full of faith and love.

Each author brings a unique style to the table. I've never read Dee Henderson or Lynette Eason before, but after these novellas I will definitely be reading more. I am very familiar with Dani Pettrey and I was so excited to read about the McKenna siblings parents, that I started the Alaskan Courage series all over again! While their writing styles are different, these stories flow together seamlessly.

I loved that each story focused on a different message, but they were all related to letting go of the past. Each character was "stuck" in their past in some way, shape, or form, and had to learn to deal with the past and move on to embrace God's future for them. Overall, I highly recommend this collection of Romantic Suspense novellas to anyone looking for mystery, love, and faith!

My Review: I am so sorry that I never picked up one of Roseanna White's books before now. She has a unique way of weaving mystery, romance, and faith into a masterful story that will keep you turning pages way past your bedtime. The Reluctant Duchess is the second book in The Ladies of the Manor series. It can be read stand alone, but there is a lot of back story you will miss so I highly recommend reading the first book in the series, The Lost Heiress (because it's JUST as fantastic as this one!).

I cannot even begin to fathom the kind of pain and suffering Rowena has endured in her life. I've never experienced the tragedies she has. Roseanna M. White brings to light the harsh realities of abuse masterfully. Like the author herself wrote in her Author's note: I loved watching Rowena come to terms with what she'd endured, overcoming it, and flourishing. Brice is just the man for the job. His insights and charm are exactly what Rowena needs. His uncanny ability to listen and interpret what the Lord is telling him truly inspires. Where Rowena tends to doubt and pull into herself, Brice is bright and charming and does his best to pull her back out. The banter the two share helps ease the suspense and seriousness of the story.

Brice and Rowena have to deal with so much from the very beginning of their marriage.  Again, Brice's ability to laugh in spite of the circumstance and joke in the face of all they endure really keeps the story from leaning toward a more Gothic nature. To me, it definitely has a more serious undertone purely because the issues Rowena and Brice have to deal with, but that didn't make it any less enjoyable watching the two fall in love.

Overall, I loved this story. Suspense, romance, and a happy ending; what more could I ask for?!

My Review: Oh. My. Cuteness. I flew through this story and cannot wait to read it again, and again, and again! I love it when a fictional book grabs my attention and teaches me a real life lesson about my Lord. That's exactly what happened as I was reading Like Never Before. It also helps that Melissa writes her characters in a way that I can relate to their thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

This is the second book in the Walker Family series, but it can definitely be read as a stand alone (however, I highly recommend reading From the Start and Three Little Words (which is FREE)). I can tell Melissa poured her heart and soul into these characters. They are excellently written. Amelia is such a unique character. I found her quirky, charming, and of course inquisitive. Her curiosity often helped her connect with Logan on a different level. Logan's equal charm and curiosity put Amelia at ease enough to drop her guard. They were just a fun couple to experience! The setting of Maple Valley is a "character" in it's own right. With unique residents and quirky festivals, Maple Valley has all the charm I would want in a small town.

Melissa Tagg's sometimes witty, sometimes serious dialogue provided the perfect backdrop for the wisdom and insights I gleaned from this story. My copy has several dog-eared pages where I read little nuggets of truth I can relate to and use in my every day life. By hiding your true self, whether intentional or unintentional, you are missing out on so much! I enjoyed following their journey back to a faith and love like they've never experienced before.

Overall, I enjoyed my return trip to Maple Valley, and I look forward to learning more about Reagan and Beckett, and catching up with my old friends Ava, Seth, Kate, and Colton.

The Painter's Daughter by Julie Klassen

Julie Klassen never disappoints me. The stories she weaves pick me up and pluck me right into the time period. The Painter's Daughter is no exception. Since the main character is a painter herself, I expected the descriptive language and scenes to be written as though through a painter's eye. I could vividly imagine seeing what Sophie was seeing. I wanted to climb the hill to Castle Rock and look at the north Devon coast, as she did. I could imaging walking through the halls at Overtree. As always, Julie Klassen's descriptions of the time period and dress were accurate and immaculate.

The cast of characters in this book made the story far more interesting. Winnie, Colonel, Kate, and the Overtrees made for an intriguing diversion from the seriousness of the situations Sohpie and Stephen encountered. At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about Sophie Dupont. Her character seemed weak and a tad too gullible for my taste. Then, as I learned more about Wesley's character and her interaction with him, I could understand better how she found herself in such a precarious predicament. I envied her strength when she arrived at Overtree Hall, and her determination to do what was right, in the face of such strong temptation. As for Stephen Overtree, there were glimpses of "Captain Black" as Wesley was wont to call him, but I found him rather endearing. His strength of character and strong will showed me a great deal about him. I loved that they faced so many challenges at the beginning of the book. As Winnie states, they had already overcome so much to be together, their future looked bright.

One area I feel Julie Klassen excels in is weaving a strong message into the story. Asking God to help you is the first step in overcoming temptation and sin. That doesn't mean you won't face trials and even more temptation, it means that you have a never ending supply of help and comfort in your trials. As Wesley, Stephen, Captain Keith, and even Sophie learn, "all men struggle with some temptation or another, but God will help you." 

Overall, Julie Klassen weaves a tail of overcoming temptation and trials with God's help. I give this book 4 stars.

My Review: I love Mary Connealy. Her books never fail to inspire me, make me laugh, and keep me on the edge of my seat. Fire & Ice is no exception. It's always interesting to me to go back in time to homesteading and the hardships and challenges of it. Mary Connealy always does an excellent job of describing life on the range. You can tell she does an extreme amount of research for her stories. She also does an excellent job of keeping the story engaging and exciting.  From the very beginning, I was caught up in the story of Bailey and Gage.

Bailey is a tough woman who has endured unspeakable horrors of war and came out on top. In a way, I can relate to her fears and sorrows based on her experiences. Gage is your typical Western male, with the exception of his past. I loved that Mary Connealy gave each of these characters such a unique past. Their troubles and heartaches were different from anything I've read before, and I appreciated the story so much more for it. I always love how the author weaves the love story into her plots. She excels at making you aware of the main characters attraction, without detracting from the plot. It developed, almost, without the reader noticing. 

The message of the story centers on trust. I know, after you read the story you might think I'm crazy, but I have a reason for my choice. Bailey lived through unspeakable horrors. Understandably, her fears drive her to a life of isolation. When she decides to give up that isolation by agreeing to Gage's crazy proposal, she is terrified. Her fears drive her to the point where she doesn't trust anyone, including herself. Gage is just the person to help Bailey, in my opinion. His past allows him to reach out to her in a way no one else could. That's God. Near the end of the story, after Bailey opens up to Gage, he makes a bold statement that really struck me: "..What good does it do to torture yourself by wondering what you should have done? It's over. All that's left now is forgiveness. Have you asked God to forgive you?"

"Yes, a thousand times. But the weight is as bad as it ever was.."

"That's not God refusing to forgive you, honey...it's you refusing to forgive yourself. God's done His part; now you have to do yours."

How many times do we withhold forgiveness from ourselves, even after we ask God to forgive us? Doesn't that drive our trust and fears? What a powerful message!

Overall, if you're looking for a "wild ride" of a story, this is the one for you.

My Review: Any book pertaining to war, even if it's not current day, makes me nervous because of how closely our current day war has affected me. However, I am SO glad I picked this novel up for review. I absolutely enjoyed every minute of it. The characters were amazing. The setting was described so well, it was like I was in the fields with Grace and her WFC cohorts. The author painted an amazing picture of the turbulent times London and Great Britian found herself in during WWI. The plot was so intriguining, it kept me guessing until the very end. I mean, I had my suspicions, but at every turn, they changed! I loved it.

Grace, sweet, naive Grace. I absolutely loved her character. Her patriotism and concern for her brother shown through in every action throughout the book. Her loyalty to her family and her Country was evident, and her faith was strong. She is a shining example of what a Christian should be, even with her faults (that take her a while to recognize in herself). Then there's Jack. What can I say about him? He's definitely a swoonworthy rogue in the beginning, but after Grace's second encounter with him, he begins to change. His development throughout the story is most notable and I loved him more for it. Grace's cohorts in the WFC were as interesting secondary characters as the main characters. Each girl had her own story, and their loyalty to their "family" warmed my heart.

"For we walk by faith, not by sight," (2 Corinthians 5:7) is the theme in this book and is very evident throughout the story. Even as Grace struggles to come to term with this verse in her own life, she sets the example for her friends and for Jack, without realizing it. That the author thought to give Grace that quality, when she didn't think she had it, is phenomenal. At the end of the story, I felt like I had been handed a present, wrapped up and topped with a bright, shiny bow. Everything came together in an unexpected, but very happy ending.

Overall, I am super glad that I decided to read this story, because I definitely loved it. I will be reading more by this fantastic author.

My Review: This book tugged at my heart strings and had my pulling my hair out in frustration throughout most of the book (in a good way). The ending was totally and completely worth the emotional roller coaster this author put me through! I loved the setting of the story, the characters, and the plot. From page one, I was pulled into life at Irish Meadows and I didn't want to leave! The character depth surprised me because at one point in the book we're viewing the story through four different view points. In my opinion, it's very hard to get a good feel for characters when a story is told through more than two view points, but Susan Anne Mason did an excellent job of describing their thoughts, feelings, and actions in extensive detail without bogging the story down or making it cumbersome with characterization. 

I loved Brianna's character. She seems to me to be a sweet, shy, and spunky girl who longs to be loved and accepted. Gilbert's position in the family, though he doesn't see it, is immediately clear to me. They love him as if he were blood. Their romance frustrated me to no end! For the plot's sake, I'm glad it wasn't an easy romance, but for my emotions sake, I wanted to shake some sense into both of them! Then there's Colleen. In the beginning of the story, I'll admit, I didn't like her one bit. But as the story progressed and Rylan entered the picture, I began to see her in a different light. Once her past was revealed, I could understand her actions and loved that Rylan could be the guiding light in her life.

The message of the story is about placing your trust in God for your future, then letting Him keep it. Each character struggles with this at some point throughout the story. It made for a heart-wrenching story, and made the ending all the more enjoyable. Overall, I really enjoyed the first installment of the Courage to Dream series and look forward to more from this amazing author.

Deleted Scene | Read an Excerpt | The Making of the Cover

My Review: I love Karen Witemeyer. Her books are action packed, exciting, and full of love and faith. This book was no exception. I was immersed in the action from page one, and this fast paced plot had me turning pages night after night. I could have blown through the story, but I wanted to capture every moment, so I made myself take it slowly page by page. It was totally worth it! I loved the story from beginning to end. How could story about a teacher on the run with a rag tag bunch of children not be entertaining?!

Charlotte Atherton is full of grit, determination, and love. Her love for her students Lily, Stephen, and John is palpable. Her distrust and unease around men is also very evident and understandable from the moment Stone Hammond comes on the scene. Her past comes back to haunt her where men are concerned, which causes her trust to be something hard to earn. Her faith, though at times small, is admirable considering the circumstances. Stone Hammond is your typical male heroine, humble, flawed, and handsome. Even though his life has hardened him, he still has a soft spot for women and children. Their sparks are evident from their first meeting, even though neither one of them recognizes it.

Karen Witemeyer writes a compelling story, full of action, love, and a great message. Learning to lean on the strength of the Lord, when our own strength fails us, is something both characters have to learn to do. God doesn't promise our journey will be easy. In fact, there are several places in the Bible that clearly state there will be trials we'll have to face. But God promises to be with us always. He will never leave us or forsake us. Learning to accept that is, indeed, a "a most worthy pursuit."

Overall, I highly enjoyed this amazing story. I look forward to reading more great works by Karen Witemeyer and I hope the next book features Marietta and Dan!

My Review: Sarah Loudin Thomas is an excellent writer. She takes an ordinary story and makes it extraordinary. Until The Harvest is a story about Casewell and Perla's son, Henry. This is a story about healing in the midst of great tragedy. It is well thought out and written. I loved reading from both Margaret and Henry's point of view. I was intrigued by the story from beginning to end.

Henry's character resonated deeply with me. When tragedy happens in life, who do you turn to? Henry struggles to come to terms with his grief, making poor choices and hurting those he loves until he realizes that God is still in control and turns to Him for help and counsel. Margaret is dealing with a life time of hurt brought on by her family. Both Henry and Margaret struggle to figure out what true and lasting love is. With the help of Margaret's sister, Mayfair, the story does have a happy ending.

The message of the story, I think, is rooted in love. God's love for us is everlasting and eternal. He wants what's best for us, even when we don't know what that is and try to turn away or not trust Him. Mayfair helps each of the characters in the story realize that what they need is love. Not just love of each other, but eternal love that will last "until the harvest."

Overall, I enjoyed this book. If you haven't read Sarah Loudin Thomas before, I highly recommend her other two books, Appalachian Serenade and Miracle In A Dry Season.
