My Review: Talk about a book hangover!! I finished Her One and Only last night and sat there after putting it down thinking...WOW. I am pretty sure this is my favorite out of all of the Porter family novels. I loved the flow and feel of this novel. Becky Wade has a knack for creating life-like characters with genuine emotions and reactions. She pulls you into a story and leaves you wanting more at the end (in the best possible way, of course).

Speaking of characters, I absolutely LOVED Dru and Gray. Dru is everything I wish I could be: strong, independent, feisty, and did I mention strong!! She has her flaws, of course, like everyone else. Grayson had my heart from the beginning. Like Dru, I couldn't help but to be drawn into his life. I was curious about him. I wanted to know what made him tick, what made him keep people at arm's length. His broken family is something I can definitely relate to. Their relationship had me in tears at some points I was laughing so hard. Their banter and the sparks that they both tried to ignore were entertaining! I also loved catching up with the rest of the Porter crew: Meg and Bo, Celia and Ty, and Jake and Lyndie.

The message of this story is about letting go. Dru and Gray both have things in their past that have defined how they view life today. By not letting go of those things, they are holding God back from what He can do in their life. As the verse at the end states, by letting go, we can embrace the "new things" God has for us.

Overall, I'm sad that the Porter Family series has come to an end, but I couldn't have asked for a better conclusion to one of the best family series I've ever read!

"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." - Isaiah 43:19

New from Becky Wade | ‘A Love Like Ours’ $100 Cash Card and Prize Pack Giveaway

Fall in love with Becky Wade's new book, A Love Like Ours, a story of healing, romance, and cowboys. A glimmer of the hope Jake thought he’d lost returns when Lyndie lands back in Texas, but fears and regrets still plague him. Will Jake ever be able to love Lyndie like she deserves, or is his heart too shattered to mend?

My Review: Becky Wade gets better and better with each book she releases. This one hit home for me. I know a lot of soldiers who are suffering from PTSD. It's a serious condition. She does an excellent job of portraying the internal struggle Jake deals with on a daily basis. The story was amazing. Catching up with Meg, Bo, Ty, and Celia was great. I also liked the parts with Amber and Will. Being back in Holley, Texas was a peace of heaven.

I loved Lyndie's character. She is compassionate, sweet, caring, kind, generous, and strong-willed. Her faith is not a piece of clothing she puts on and takes off when things get tough. It's as much a part of her as her quirky personality and creativity. I love that about her. Jake, with all his faults and fears, still earned my admiration. As Lyndie frequently describes him, he is tall, dark, and brooding, but he's also fiercely protective and amazingly gentle. Their romance didn't spark and catch right away like it did for Bo and Meg or Ty and Celia. Instead, they both had to overcome almost insurmountable objects to have the kind of relationship they wanted.

The message of the story is about healing and hope. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11 Becky does a great job of weaving her message in a natural way throughout the story. I really like that about her. Her characters live lives that I can relate to. Her stories are relatable.

Overall, I highly recommend this sweet, sweet story. I look forward to more by this amazing author.

About the book:
A Love Like Ours (Bethany House, May 2015)

Former Marine Jake Porter has far deeper scars than the one that marks his face. He struggles with symptoms of PTSD, lives a solitary life, and avoids relationships.

When Lyndie James, Jake's childhood best friend, lands back in Holley, Texas, Jake cautiously hires her to exercise his Thoroughbreds. Lyndie is tender-hearted, fiercely determined, and afraid of nothing, just like she was as a child. Jake pairs her with Silver Leaf, a horse full of promise but lacking in results, hoping she can solve the mystery of the stallion's reluctance to run.

Though Jake and Lyndie have grown into very different adults, the bond that existed during their childhood still ties them together. Against Jake's will, Lyndie's sparkling, optimistic personality begins to tear down the walls he's built around his heart. A glimmer of the hope he'd thought he'd lost returns, but fears and regrets still plague him. Will Jake ever be able to love Lyndie like she deserves, or is his heart too shattered to mend?

Meant To Be Mine by Becky Wade

Meant to Be Mine (Porter Family Series #2)Overview: Ty Porter has always been irresistible to Celia Park. All through high school--irresistible. When their paths cross again after college--still irresistible. This time, though, Ty seems to feel exactly the same way about Celia. Their whirlwind romance deposits them at a street-corner Las Vegas wedding chapel.

The next morning they wake to a marriage certificate and a dose of cold reality. Celia's ready to be Ty's wife, but Ty's not ready to be her husband. He's a professional bull rider, he lives on the road, and he's long planned to settle down with the hometown girl he's known since childhood.

Five and a half years pass. Celia's buried her dreams so that she can afford to raise her daughter. Ty's achieved all of his goals. Or thought he had, until he looks again into the eyes of the woman he couldn't forget and into the face of the child he never knew he had.

How much will Ty sacrifice to win back Celia's trust and prove to her that their spontaneous marriage can still become the love of a lifetime?

My Review: I absolutely devoured this story! It was amazing. From beginning to end, I was rooting for Celia and Ty. I loved Addie and it was nice getting to reconnect with Meg, Bo, and Jake (I can't wait to read his story!). Being back in Holley, Texas was like putting on a comfortable pair of jeans and worn in cowboy boots. The story flowed effortlessly and kept me up late into the night to finish.

I absolutely loved Celia and Ty. Their spark, spunk, and downright witty banter back and forth made the story that much more enjoyable. Celia is smart, sassy, and a devoted mother. She is independent to a fault. Ty is impulsive, handsome, and heartbreakingly charming. If he was a real person, I feel like I would have been head over heals for him just like Celia was. Their spark was undeniable to the reader, though it took them a while to accept it themselves.

The message of the book was all about forgiveness. Both Celia and Ty have to work through some pretty major bitterness, regret, and self-loathing to accept the forgiveness from each other and most importantly the God who loves them. The sacrifices both characters have to make are symbolic of the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for us, so we don't have to die and go to hell.

Overall, this was an amazing story and I look forward to reading more from this wonderful author!

Undeniably Yours by Becky Wade

Undeniably Yours: a novelOverview: When Meg Cole’s father dies unexpectedly, she becomes the majority shareholder of his oil company and the single inheritor of his fortune. Though Meg is soft-spoken and tenderhearted -- more interested in art than in oil -- she’s forced to return home to Texas and to Whispering Creek Ranch to take up the reins of her father’s empire.

The last thing she has the patience or the sanity to deal with? Her father’s thoroughbred racehorse farm. She gives its manager, Bo Porter, six months to close the place down.

Bo’s determined to resent the woman who’s decided to rob him of his dream. But instead of anger, Meg evokes within him a profound desire to protect. The more time he spends with her, the more he longs to overcome every obstacle that separates them -- her wealth, his unworthiness, her family’s outrage -- and earn the right to love her.

But just when Meg begins to realize that Bo might be the one thing on the ranch worth keeping, their fragile bond is viciously broken by a force from Meg’s past. Can their love, and their belief that God can work through every circumstance, survive?

My Review: This is an undeniably sweet story. The story was incredibly written. I loved everything about it from the horse ranch to the big house to the office in Dallas. This book had me turning pages late into the night to finish and when it ended, I was happy and sad at the same time. I was happy because  it ended on a happy note and sad because it was over.

I love, love, love the characters in this book. Becky Wade has a knack for taking fictional characters and making their lives, emotions, feelings, actions and reactions so real. I love that her characters spoke and acted like real people. They listened to country music, they said things they shouldn't, they acted so normal. Meg is such a sweetheart. I liked her gentleness but I also liked her gumption. She has to deal with real problems, like panic attacks, that many people shrug off as not serious. Bo Parker is a perfect gentleman and reminds me a lot of my husband. He is kind, good, sweet, but fiercely protective of those he loves.

The message of the story, once Bo and Meg grasped it, resonated deep in me. Even when you don't feel like He is, God is with you, leading you down the path He wants you to go. Our job, as Christians, is to wait on the Lord, trust in Him, and let Him lead us. It's so hard to do, especially when you can't see what's up ahead, but God knows.

Overall, I loved this story and look forward to reading more in the Porter Family series.
