My Reviews: Mia Quinn Series

My Review: Lis Wiehl knows how to write a crime drama. The story, the plot, the characters, and everything in between had me yearning for more. The plot shed some light on a topic that few others have. Human trafficking and slaves in America, in modern day, is tough to read about. Lis Wiehl does a great job of keeping the mystery in the forefront of the story, while informing the reader about this serious subject. 

I loved catching up with Mia, Charlie, Eli, and Gabe again. Mia finally seems to be coming to terms with her new "normal" and is beginning to embrace the life she's left with. Charlie and Eli are fighting for her affection and attention, albeit subtly throughout the book. I know who I want her to fall in love with, but we'll see! I really love reading parts of the book through Gabe's perspective. Not only to we get to watch him become an adult, but it gives us more information about Mia and how she's doing. Parts of the book written through Bo Yee's and Kenny's eyes were fantastically placed. It keeps the story moving and the struggle to solve the crimes in the forefront.

Spiritually, there wasn't a lot of movement. I can still tell Mia is trying to grasp the concept of her father's dramatic change, and she does go to church, but she is still coming to terms with her new-found faith. I hope to see more growth in the future books. However, I am glad the author has written the books realistically. 

Overall, I was highly satisfied with this edge of your seat crime drama and look forward to reading more in the Mia Quinn series.

My Review: Lis Wiehl writes another thrilling crime drama that kept me turning pages! A Deadly Business is the second installment in the Mia Quinn Series. I couldn't put it down! The plot is fast moving and kept me up reading late into the night! With twists and turns, Lis Wiehl will keep you guessing until the very end.

It was nice catching up with Mia, Charlie, Eli, and Mia's children. As Mia struggles to find ground in her newly single life, shocking revelations about her past knock the ground out from under her. Charlie and Eli would love to pick up the pieces, but Mia's not ready yet. I'll be interested to see what comes from that "love triangle"!

Mia is struggling to find her faith in this new reality she's been thrust into and she's finding it hard to trust. The aspect of the Christian faith was there, lurking in the background of Mia's choices and decisions, but I don't think she's come to terms with it yet.

Overall, I was highly satisfied with this book and I can't wait to read the next one as the Mia story continues!

My Review: It has been a long time since I've read a book that has crept into my dreams! Lis Wiehl wrote a captivating crime novel and I couldn't wait to read it each day. I would have finished it sooner if I didn't have so much going on in my life at the moment! The story was well written and laid out. I didn't solve the mystery until the characters did. It was not predicable to me, and I appreciated that.

The characters were very intriguing. I love that the author wrote Mia as a real, single mom, struggling to find her balance between work, family, and putting her life back together. Her character will be one that any woman, whether you have been in her situation or not, can relate to. I also love that this is going to be a series. I feel like Mia's character development will be much better when stretched out over a few books, rather than jam packed all into one.

The faith element was a little lacking for me, however, not in a bad way. Mia's character is just learning to trust again after the events in her life took that trust away. It would be improbable that she would just jump into a faith that relies on trust right away. In my opinion, the right amount of faith was put in the book with Mia's dad as the sole witness for her. This book does, however, deal with a lot of other issues. Single motherhood, death, and bullying are prominently featured in the book as real obstacles the characters have to overcome.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next book in the series!
